August 29 1800 Vietnam Time -Ms. Hanh, Mr. Thuong & Mr. Tho
With Khanh picking me up at 8:30 AM, Saturday was our day for visits to three special people in rural Hue that we have been helping for seven years. You might say that they’re my “regulars”. It’s refreshing to observe the vast improvement in their quality of life. Their disabilities have not hampered their spirit, that’s for sure. We provided a “boost” and their amazing work ethic took it from there. We certainly are changing lives and building bridges. Helping & healing.

Ms. Hanh |
Ms. Hanh, born with no arms, is so sweet, happy and seemingly undaunted by her disability. She uses her feet to eat, brush her hair, sort vegetables, feed her pigs & chickens, and so many other tasks. What an inspirational lady! Ms. Hanh’s sister lives with her. Together, they get it done.

Mr. Thuong |
Mr. Thoung, when a child, fell into a fire. His hands were burned so badly that they were essentially removed, leaving only stubs. This man is amazing. He works the rice fields, rides a bike (that we gifted to him), builds structures, provides for his family, and is just plain unstoppable.

Mr. Tho |
Mr. Tho, who lost a leg fighting in the ARVN during the war, gets around with the use of one crutch. He doesn’t have the luxury of a prosthesis, lacks mobility, and is pretty much restricted to his home. Subsequent to the war, he found a niche making baskets and trays from bamboo. Making 2-3 daily, he was able to raise his children and provide only the most basic family needs…just enough to survive. But, now in his twilight years, we have eased Mr. Tho’s burden. I must say that his wife has quite the sense of humor!
All
three of these individuals have survived by grit and determination. How
can one not be inspired? We have nurtured hope, happiness,
and a better life for these deserving folks…my friends. Gifts were give to each, bringing enthusiastic smiles!
Following our visits, I was honored to meet Khanh’s wife and family at their home. What a tasty meal we had! Our conversation around the table was fun and lively. It was a great time
Today I traveled from Hue to DaNang, where I landed just one week ago. It is amazing how much has already been accomplished. Taking away the two Hue-DaNang travel days and Sunday, that leaves just 4 day. So much has been done. Tomorrow AM I leave by train to Nha Trang to visit Col. Tha, my former enemy.
